This week the Play Gourmets had a homecoming back to Miami, or at least it was a homecoming for 2/3rds of us, since the other third was born and is being raised in Texas. Miami means family, friends, fun, food, and beauty to us, and this trip was not short on any of it.
No stranger to the airport, our little Play Gourmet is happy to lead us through the terminal in Ft. Lauderdale.
And when we got there, we quickly ticked the beauty checkbox.
It wasn’t long before we were having fun with our best friends and family.
And now we get to share with everyone one of South Florida’s coolest spots. Jaxson’s Ice Cream Parlor in Dania Beach. This establishment was opened in 1956, and has been one of the most popular ice cream shops in South Florida since. In fact, it made the Food Network’s top 5 list of Ice Cream Shops. And we aim to show you why.
They have a pretty extensive menu, and we know from experience that the ice cream dishes are beautiful and abundant. But, when we get the chance to exercise our Play Gourmet muscles, there is only one thing on the menu to order. The Kitchen Sink.
The Kitchen Sink is comprised of 4 ice cream flavors with every topping. The toppings are marshmallow fluff, chocolate syrup, strawberries, pineapples, whip cream, cherries, nuts, and sprinkles. You can see during the making of our order that each of their canisters of ice-cream must only hold a couple Jaxson’s sized scoops. Not to mention the firehose style of applying whipped cream.
With every order of the Kitchen Sink, elephant sounds are sent reverberating off of the license plate covered walls, and to draw the maximum amount of attention, the mountain of ice cream is delivered with sparklers set a blaze.
We were lucky enough to have Uncle Roy, Uncle Scott, and Aunt Pam there to help us with this textbook definition of culinary feat. (feat – an achievement that requires great courage, skill, or strength) And in this case, required courage, skill, AND strength.
Time to dig in, and luckily, I had help.
But this extraordinary accomplishment was not for the faint hearted, and not everyone lasted till the end. Kitchen Sink – 1, Little Play Gourmet – 0.
Until next time.
Excellent photographs!
